ELECTRONIC MAKER WORKSHOP (LEVEL 1)
Let’s face it, you probably already have a better printer, digital camera or game console than the ones you’ll make in our workshop. But the chances are that you won’t really know how they work, most certainly you wouldn’t think that they were things you could make for yourself at home with basic components and possibly everyday materials.
Our workshops are designed to give you an easy bite-size introduction to the wonderful world of digital electronics & computer.

"Just because it was hard for me, doesn't mean it should be hard for you. ""
- Tom Igoe
Without proper guidance. We (Engineers) have to bang our head against the wall for many years, just to learn the trick of the trade for hardware design & development.
Our pain is your gain, we guarantee that our workshop will guide participants to pick up only the essentials quickly and be a Hardware Maker taking the pain-free route!
BETTER APPRECIATION OF THE WORLD WE LIVE IN
The goal by the end of the 3 days is to ignite the passion within everybody to better appreciate products we owned.
Hopefully, after the workshop you will catch yourself thinking twice before upgrading or buying a new piece of electronic device, furthermore, you can see yourself paying more attention into maintaining your electronics properly thus increasing its useful lifespan.
ENROLL NOWIntroductory rates are now in effect, enroll now to take advantage of this one time offer to broaden your knowledge.
Enroll for a seat in just the Beginner level workshop to whet your appetite or purchase your workshop seat bundle for even more savings.
ENROLL NOWParticipants will kick off their 3 days learning journey with identifying common electronic components & basic soldering. This will then be followed by PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design, covering both designing schematics as well as PCB layout. We will be touching on embedded software development which will pair up nicely with the unique hardware created during the workshop and allow each participant to bring home not only a wealth of knowledge but a working piece of useful practical home appliances.
The First half (BEGINNER) of the workshop will focus on navigating through the popular Eagle© PCB software design tool. So as to allow our soon-to-be maker to better appreciate the PCB as well as its fabrication method, we took the extra steps and structured our workshop to guide participants in making a piece of working electronic PCB manually from scratch! (Dealing with chemicals & drilling)
In the Second half (ADVANCED) of the workshop, we will be looking into reusing Open-Source Hardware design where most of our attention will be spent on the Arduino© project. By the end of the class, participants will be constructing a fully customized Powered-up Arduino© UNO board with numerous additional peripherals.
The final PCB design in this workshop will be individually inspected and verified by an experienced in house engineer before being submitted to our fabricating partner. Let me emphasize that the final PCB will be manufactured at the same level found in most industrial grade product, thus it is of the highest quality.
Electronics experience is helpful but not required - all are welcome!
Our workshop focus on practicality & we assume no prior knowledge or experience.
Our guided workshop is designed to be easy to digest, where learning is done through working hands-on example. The workshop aims to be both engaging & Inspiring for participants of various age & background.
Acceptable age ranges from Adult down to Children above the age of 13.
To caters the need for flexible pace & timing, participants could choose to enroll in parts of the workshop separately. But to achieve the best experience/outcome from the workshop, it is highly recommended to enroll for the full workshop and go with the flow.
More often than not. Our customers are not seeking for the most ideal solution to their problem, but just a mean to solve their problem quickly. Therefore the solution we offer our customers could be underwhelmingly simple.
In other words, they just want a hammer. It makes no difference whether you are putting a nail or a screw into the wall; This workshop aims to be a hammer. It is meant for participants who just want to get in & learn to get something done!
Percy Chen Founder TomatoCube
Part of the journey of TomatoCube started when we ran a one-day charitable electronics workshop for the kids from various local orphanages. We witness firsthand the happiness & joy the kids experience after completing a working project, but the true potential of inspiring the children is yet to be seen. It could potentially offer them a chance to escape poverty & the ability to contribute to the modern technological world of tomorrow.
We could do better! One disappointment we faced is not being able to financially support ourselves to run consecutive workshops, therefore TomatoCube is created & pledge % of every earnings into a charitable pool to allow us to reach out more effectively in the near future.
Percy Chen Idealist @TomatoCube
Consider an old mobile phone, it can easily work as one of the most advanced security camera or a high-quality mp3 jukebox. Don’t throw it away, think wisely!
If you can start to repurpose an old electronics that aren’t useful anymore for their intended use, we could say that we have reached the ultimate outcome by the end of the workshop & totally deserve a big pat on the back!
Percy Chen In-House Geek
After conducting technical training workshop for adult engineers for years. I have personally witnessed a drastic drop in the motivation of being an engineer/creator, the passion for continuous learning and experimentation is almost non-existence.
While delivering the message that being a maker/coder/engineer is no longer confined to the realm of the geeks, we shifted our attention to focus on younger children in hopes to inspire & keep the flame burning before it is being extinguished.

Topics we will be covering in our Electronic Maker Workshop (Level 1)
This marks the first of many workshops in the pipeline which TomatoCube will be rolling out, and it will also serve as a core pre-requisite for all upcoming Electronics hardware related workshops.
One of the immediate workshops currently in the works which will serve as a smooth continuation of the current workshop would be the Arduboy track, an 8-bit game console reminiscent the good old days of classic Nintendo® Gameboy era. Talk to any of us during the workshop for an early preview.
